Hi, I’ve just turned 50. Today. That’s huge, right?! And even yesterday, knowing it was the last day of my 40s, felt momentous. Yet oddly mundane as well.
Everyone makes a big deal of milestone birthdays and I’m not sure the decade ones are strictly the ones we should be making a big deal of. But 50 does sound huge. It’s half a century. It’s what I once saw as old.
I don’t know how I feel.
I’ve named this Substack, The Second Act, optimistically thinking this is a new and exciting era I’m ushering in. But somewhere in the recesses of my mind, I’m also acutely aware that this “second act” will bring with it an aging body, and more death - my own and those I love. Sorry to be morbid. Obviously, I don’t know what order it will all play out in or how long this second act will be. But I’m excited for the adventure ahead and hope it’s filled with a lot more beautiful memories.
